STX says reception to the film’s trailer and test screening account for the release date change. Amy Schumer fans will be seeing the comedian’s next movie sooner than expected.
STXfilms on Wednesday said it is moving up the release date of Schumer’s comedy I Feel Pretty from June 29 to April 27. The studio cited positive reception to the film’s trailer, which has had over 40 million views on YouTube since it dropped Feb. 8, and a successful test screening to account for the change.
I Feel Pretty moves from a busy June date, where it would have opened against Sony crime-thriller sequel Sicario 2, Lionsgate comedy Uncle Drew and MGM musical Valley Girl, to an April date shared by Lionsgate thriller Traffik.
The pic follows a woman, played by Schumer, who has low self-esteem until she wakes up in the aftermath of falling off of her bike at SoulCycle with limitless self-confidence and assurance in her good looks. In addition to Schumer, the comedy also stars Michelle Williams, Rory Scovel, Emily Ratajkowski, Aidy Bryant, Busy Philipps, Tom Hopper, Naomi Campbell and Lauren Hutton.
I Feel Pretty is directed by screenwriting duo Abby Kohn and Marc Silverman (The Vow, He’s Just Not That Into You) and produced by Wonderland Sound and Vision’s McG and Mary Viola, Voltage Pictures’ Alissa Phillips, Dominic Rustam and Nicholas Chartier and Schumer.
