Cruise, a drama set in the summer of 1987 about an unlikely relationship between a Jewish girl from Long Island and an Italian boy from Queens, will be the centerpiece of the 20th San Francisco Independent Film Festival running Feb. 1-15.
The 92-minute world premiere from filmmaker Robert D. Siegel stars Emily Ratajkowski (Gone Girl) as Jessica Weinberg, who likes to seek thrills on the other side of the tracks. Her summer romance with the teenage Gio (Spencer Boldman) develops into a crime spree that turns their carefree worlds upside down.
Directing from his own script, Siegel (writer of The Wrestler and writer-director of Big Fan) celebrates muscle cars, Motorola pagers and the youth culture of the 1980s. Siegel will be in attendance for the screening at the Roxie Theatre, 3117 16th St., at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9. Tickets are $13-$14.
